After 11 years and 21 films Avengers Endgame is finally here. The journey started with Iron Man which was more of an experiment and whose success spawned the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After a decade of entertainment where fans have increased multiple times over, we can say the vision has been a success. Carefully planned and meticulously executed, Marvel has given us a case study on how to make nerds cool. Everything from character introduction, phasing, character development and arc have been perfect and in sync for all the superheroes. Endgame culminates everything built up so far. Don’t worry things have not ended, just that the baton has been passed.

Endgame opens with people, normal and superheroes, dealing with the fallout of Infinity war. Some have moved on, others are unable to accept their loss. Some resort to alcoholism and some to vigilantism and take out their frustrations on the universe. Steve tries to unite with Tony but the bad blood from Civil War is still there. Natasha takes on the reigns from Nick Fury while the Captain tries his best to keep the team motivated- but it really falls on deaf ears. The search for Thanos is on who is on a sabbatical on an unknown planet as the survivors rage for avenging the fallen.

Endgame like all the predecessors combines action with humor very well- with Thor and Rocket being the show-stealers. The theme is sacrifice for the greater good and whatever it takes to bring the fallen back. In the process new sets of smaller teams get formed, each with specific task which brings out unusual humor and camaraderie. I believe these teams were made keeping future movies in mind.

The movie is slow in the beginning so as to give everyone time to cope. But I feel the slow build up is worth it as the action sequences kicked in. Along the path there are sacrifices, proving of worthiness, meeting doppelgangers and mending of old relationships and regrets. This culminated into an epic final battle which for me has set a benchmark in action sequences for others to better.

New superheroes have lesser role than the original Avengers. Cap and Tony have been here from the start and Marvel Studios owes them. So, I was fine with the movie turning into a homage to these two and the black widow, they deserve it. Rocket is another character growing on me, he and his melted ice cream are a laugh riot. Watch out for his scene with Thor who is in an unimaginable avatar. All the ladies who became fan of Avengers because of the finely chiseled and muscled Chris Hemsworth are in for a rude shock.

The end battle to which everything builds up is filled with so many smaller, brilliant moments which made everyone in the theater scream and cheer and grab onto the edge of their seats. There is a girl gang moment like in Infinity War except this one is bigger and more menacing. Endgame as a movie is in some ways better than Infinity War as the previous one struggled to give time and importance to every superhero while this one had to contend with only 6 remaining Avengers.

Endgame is the culmination of everything Marvel has created up-to this point and it has gone all out. The action, comedy, character arc everything is true to its tagline: “Whatever it takes”. The future of Avengers is uncertain as Disney CEO confirmed they want to try their hand in new franchises which makes this movie all the more emotional. Also, Russo brothers would be moving on to greener pastures which would be a big miss. They have done a brilliant job taking the reign from Joss Whedon when he left Marvel in 2015.

Endgame is a brilliant movie made for the fans, but even the first timers will enjoy the action sequences and the humor. A movie made for the theaters and for watching with equally nerdy friends. Given the hype and the booking for the movie I believe Endgame is right up there with fulfilling the expectations. Watch it and please share your rating.

Spoilers:

Tony Stark/Iron Man:

I became a fan of Marvel because of Tony Stark. Tony Stark and the Iron man made what Marvel Studios is today. Iron Man created a different segment called superheroes which is now a huge business altogether. Till then only Batman, Superman and Spiderman were attempted with some success. Marvel started with Hulk which was a failure but it was Iron Man which kick started everything. I became a fan immediately when I saw Tony Stark as the genius, playboy, billionaire and philanthropist. He was a flawed superhero but was the first one and I loved him. A superhero who paid for everything and made the Avengers look cool Tony Stark will be missed. I cried when I realized that he was being saved to be the sacrifice to save the world. After Robert Downey Jr, there can’t be anyone else playing the Iron Man.

Steve Rodgers/Captain America:

Captain Steve Rodgers was the first Avenger created and was the example of righteousness. He and Tony had friction between them because as characters they were poles apart. But still they worked together to save the world. But Captain is now with Peggy, and has lived the life he wanted; probably missed Tony and lived his slice of life too. Initially I found him boring and not my cup of tea as he went against my man Tony. But his character grew on me and I started loving him from the Winter Soldier. He was a pillar of Avengers and he will be missed. Oh Captain my Captain.

Natasha Romanov/Black Widow:

It is sad that no solo movie ever came out about her. Although it is rumored that a movie with her origins is under consideration but I think it is too little and too late, they should have made it before killing off her character. She had an introduction in Iron Man 2 but that was just a mellowed disguise to spy on Tony. Her intro scene in Avengers was one of the best for any superhero. She was a side kick but she held the group together during difficult times. The fact she didn’t have any family to mourn her made her death even more unbearable.

Also I am a tad bit disappointed with the way Thanos dies, Ant-Man should have gone inside Thanos through his ass and expanded.
